Balenciaga Summer 2022 Stars ‘The Simpons’
Season: Summer 2022
Editor’s Notes: Balenciaga’s summer 2022 collection is making headlines even without mentioning the clothes. The French luxury house has unveiled its latest novelties via a multi-part, star-studded affair, enlisting models as diverse as Naomi Osaka, the daughter of Steve Jobs, and the cast of The simpsons. Seriously.
Yes, the whole town of Springfield took part in the Paris Fashion Week action in a The Simpsons shorts made exclusively for the unveiling of the new Balenciaga collection. It even features Anna Wintour and Demna Gvasalia as themselves.
It’s a cute short, with some really wild designs – seeing Smithers and Chef Wiggum in Balenciaga is definitely a sight to see. There are even reminders for the The Simpsons heads, like the Sideshow Bob rake gag.
There is also an unintentional quirk throughout the association. It might just be me, but when I see famous cartoon characters wearing recognizable fashion brands, I think of those streetwear mockups that were making the rounds on Tumblr or Instagram in 2012.
The short is not only a crazy crossover that will make Balenciaga’s new show unforgettable, it is also a neat connection to the latest The Simpsons season, which started last week.
In a separate presentation, Eve (“Steve” minus the “St”) Jobs took to a fake red carpet alongside K-Pop star and Got7 member Mark Tuan, Balenciaga superfan Cardi B, Dev Hynes, Offset and a group of Balenciaga models, because it wasn’t enough to house Steve Jobs’ child.
Kanye may have hit the runway as well, but that’s unclear given the last character in the video was wearing a mask. He’s a proven Kanye-ism now, however, and his recent partnerships with Demna would make that especially likely.
This show is basically normal for Balenciaga – remember, this year alone Balenciaga revealed some heeled Crocs, a cube of sneakers, a Fortnite collaboration, and this whole alliance with Gucci, to name a few.
In a fashion month full of great moments and great shows, er, catwalks, let Balenciaga redefine the idea of a fashion show.
